National Council for Women in India(NCWI) is a pioneering feminist organization , alongside Women’s Indian Association (WIA) and All India Women’s Conference (AIWC) and thus India’s first Representative in the International Council for Women ( ICW).
Founded by Lady Aberdeen of ICW and Lady Meharbai Tata in 1925, with the sole intention to promote economic status of underpriviledged women through skill development training programmes for social reform in the society at large in India.
NCWI provides platforms for various women’s groups/associations/Centres spread across cities like Bangluru,Chennai, Kolkata,Shimla and many other major cities of India ,to address issues related to women’s upliftment coming from lower strata of society. The organization has maintained a voluntary and non-political structure evolving into the networking of thousands of members focused on upliftment of women’s community .
Late Mrs. Susheela Baljee, the erstwhile President of the elected committee, contributed immensely to the growth and development of the Centre.
Through her consistent efforts, dedication, and unwavering support to her team, the Centre achieved high standards and earned recognition across the region. Her commitment and leadership continue to inspire the present team members, and her contribution is remembered with deep respect and gratitude.
Shri C. K. Baljee, in the loving memory of his mother Late Mrs. Susheela Baljee, continues to strengthen the Centre – National Council for Women both financially and emotionally.
He donates 20 sewing machines every year to be distributed among needy women, supports women from economically weaker sections by paying their diploma course fees offered by the Centre, and contributes ₹20,000 per month to help beneficiaries in need. He remains deeply emotionally attached to the Centre and continues to support its mission of empowering women.
